Frederick Patterson was known for the Greenfield Patterson automobile which was the first car company to be owned by an African American. Frederick’s father ran the company as a carriage company but the son saw great opportunities in horseless carriages. Even after The company enjoyed great profits, Frederick Patterson saw even greater opportunities in buses. He converted the company to the Greenfield Bus Body Company.
