September 17, 1978 the most expensive science fiction TV movie premiered on ABC at a cost of $14,000,000. It had an audience of 65 million people and beat out the emmys and King Kong. It stayed on as a top twenty series until it was canceled out of greed. The network thought they could get better ratings with a different show. They were wrong. When they realized their error, they brought Galactica back but changed the story and disappointed the fans. The show was remade again and again in different incarnations and continues to have fans throughout the world. It is currently being developed as a major motion picture.
