New Possible States That Could Be Added To The United States

By Glen Eric Larson

Donald Trump has looked at Greenland recently as a place for the United states to expand but there are many other friendly nations that will jump at the chance of being part of the United States. There are many areas of the world that love the freedom that the United States offers and want to be a part of it. There are many places in the world that share the same values like Free market capitalism and others.

Puerto Rico has voted for statehood and other United States territories like American Samoa, Virgin Islands Or Guam may also want to the jump at the chance of being states.

Conservative Canadian Provinces such as Alberta, Sasketchewan and Manitoba are more at odds with the rest of Canada and have more in common with American Conservatives. These provinces may be more at home in the United States than in Canada. 62% Albertans said they were dissatisfied with confederation with Canada in 2018. Another Province New Foundland and Labrador may be warm to the idea of joining the United States. Newfoundland, Canada had a referendum to join the United States but was narrowly defeated in 1948.

Some of Mexico’s border areas have shown a history of independence from Mexico and may embrace the idea of being included into the United States. Places like Tamaulipas, Nuevo Leon and Coahuila have shown a history of wanting to be independent of Mexico in the past when they formed a government called the Republic of the Rio Grande. They may warm up to the idea of becoming part of the United States.

Other Mexican states that border California and Arizona may warm up the idea of becoming added to the stars and stripes of the United States and provide great opportunities for development. Purchases of Sonora, Baja California, Sonora and Baja California Sur would benefit from United States investment and would allow the United States to get incredible beach front property. Since the United States has had a recent rise in homelessness in some of the major cities, they could reintroduce the Homestead act and allow people to own free and clear any new acquisitions. The United States could have large Oklahoma land rush style grabs that would allow people to own a piece of potentially valuable land. Imagine people riding bicycles in a race and then people being able to grab a flag that would give them rights and ownership to the land that they own.

Taiwan is a friendly area to the United States but China may not be very excited by this idea. The people of Taiwan love America and are very friendly to free market capitalism. In 2003, 55% of Taiwan polled in favor of becoming part of the United States. Another asian nation that favors the United States is Hong Kong. A petition to add Hong Kong to the United States was past the 100,000 mark. Hong Kong is also an outpost of free market capitalism and is very friendly to the United States.

Philippines used to be a territory of the United States and are also very friendly to the United States along with Liberia which was set up by the American Colonization Society. Liberia’s offiicial language is English and its flag is modeled after the American flag. The Liberian constitution was modeled after the United States Constitution. Liberia would give the United States a foothold into Africa.

Other friendly states to the United States would be Panama and Costa Rica and Chile. Panama Canal zone was a United States Territory. Jimmy Carter gave up the Panama Canal when he was in office.

Costa Rica is very friendly to the United States. Americans do not even need a visa to enter Costa Rica. They just need a valid passport and can own land without even being a citizen of Costa Rica.

Chile could be added to the United States since the favorable opinion of the US is very high there. 62% of Chileans view American influence positively in 2013. Chile and The United States have a free trade agreement that is called the United States-Chile Free Trade Agreement and is included in the visa waiver program. Chile is a  signer of the Inter-American Treaty of Reciprocal Assistance which means if one country is attacked, the other will come to their defense.

Poland and Ireland may want to join the United States. 79% of Poland viewed the United States favorably in 2002. Ireland is a democracy with many shared values with the United States. Ireland favors lower tax rates than in much of europe and may fit more comfortably with the United States. The United Kingdom has voted to get out of the European Union and are looking for more suitable trading partners. The United Kingdom could decide that the United States values are more aligned with their own.

So if Donald Trump is not able to acquire Greenland, there are many other friendly nations that may jump at the chance of being part of the United States and enjoy the freedom and values that the United States offers.
